Zechariah 6:9-15
Zechariah 6:9
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah once again.
Zechariah 6:10
Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of
Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same
day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;
Heldai was one of the Israelite exiles also known as
Helem in verse 14. Tobijah was a
chief man whose posterity returned from exile.
He obtained the gold and silver for Joshua’s crown.
Jedaiah was a chief priest who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.
Josiah the son of Zephaniah was not the son of the prophet Zephaniah.
He may have been the temple treasurer or he may have been a goldsmith.
All three of the aforementioned men were to go to the house of Josiah on
one day.
Zechariah 6:11
Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them
upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;
Then these men were to manufacture crowns from the gold
and silver which was available to
them and were to place them upon the head of Joshua the High Priest.
Joshua was cleansed of his sins in chapter three and now he was to have a
crown set upon his head which means a coronation is taking place.
This may be speaking of the Mitre which is the headgear that the High
priest wore.
And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold,
and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
(Exodus 28:36) Both of
the crowns would represent a crown for a king and a crown for a priest which
describes two of the offices of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Zechariah 6:12
And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of
hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out
of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Then they are to speak to
Joshua who is a prefigurement of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah ben David.
Isaiah prophesied his coming.
And in that day there shall be a
root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the
Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
(Isaiah 11:10) He shall
be of the tribe of Judah and will be in the line of David.
He is prefigured by Joshua being crowned King and Priest.
When Christ comes on the scene, he will build the temple.
Not the physical temple because that is what the Pharisees stumbled on
believing Christ would raise the temple in three days.
And said, This fellow said, I am
able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
(Matthew 26:61) The
temple which will be built is the body of believers.
Know ye not that ye are the temple
of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
(1 Corinthians 3:16) All
the elect of God will be saved until the last day when the temple will be
complete.
Zechariah 6:13
Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall
bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest
upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Christ will dispatch the people to build the physical
temple in Jerusalem which will become the anti-type of the temple of the body of
believers. The glory he will bear
will be that of both King and priest, which Joshua the high priest was the
prefigurement of the eternal rule of Christ.
Christ shall be both King and High Priest.
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum:
We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the
Majesty in the heavens; (Hebrews
8:1)
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name
written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
(Revelation 19:16)
The peace he will counsel will be the peace which will
come between the office of King and priest which in the Mosaic Law were two
different offices held by two different men.
Now the Lord Jesus Christ, through his sacrifice, has obtained peace with
God for all the saved of earth.
Therefore being justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
(Romans 5:1) He
maintains that peace through the fulfillment of both offices, as High Priest who
advocates for his people and ruler who guides and protects his people.
Zechariah 6:14
And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to
Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the
LORD.
The crowns which were the ones made of Gold and silver
shall be given to these men, the ones who were mentioned in verse 10 who came
back from Babylon to Judah. These
crowns will serve as a memorial to the prophecy that the Messiah will definitely
come to Jerusalem and Judah at the appointed time which would be about 500 years
from the time of the building of the temple of Zerubbabel.
Zechariah 6:15
And they that are far off shall come and build in the
temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto
you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the
LORD your God.
