Nehemiah 11:25-36

Ne 11:25

And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjath-arba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof,

 

Kirjath-Arba was about 20 miles (32 KM) south of Jerusalem and was also identified as Hebron.  Dibon has not been located, possibly because it may have been a strictly farming community without any official boundaries.  Jekabzeel was about 42 miles (68 KM) south of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:26

And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Beth-phelet,

 

Jeshua was about 40 miles (64 KM) south of Jerusalem.  Moladah was about 43 miles (69 KM) south of Jerusalem.  Beth-phelet was in the Negev but its location is unknown.

 

Ne 11:27

And at Hazar-shual, and at Beer-sheba, and in the villages thereof,

 

Hazar-shual was about 45 miles (72 KM) south of Jerusalem and Beer-sheba was about 46 miles (74 KM) southwest of Jerusalem. 

 

Ne 11:28

And at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof,

 

Ziklag was about 45 miles (72 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  The location of Mekonah is unknown but has been believed to be near Ziklag.

 

Ne 11:29

And at En-rimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth,

 

En-rimmon is about 35 miles (56 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  Jarmuth was about 16 miles (26 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  The location of Zareah is unknown.

 

Ne 11:30

Zanoah, Adullam, and in their villages, at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Azekah, and in the villages thereof. And they dwelt from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom.

 

Zanoah was about 14 miles (23 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  Adullam was about 15 miles (24 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  Lachish was about 25 miles (40 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  Azekah was about 20 miles (32 KM) southwest of Jerusalem.  Beer-sheba was about 45 miles (72 KM) south of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:31

The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Aija, and Beth-el, and in their villages,

 

Michmash was about 8 miles (13 KM) northeast of Jerusalem.  Aija was 10 miles (16 KM) northeast of Jerusalem.  Beth-el was about 10 miles (16 KM) north of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:32

And at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

 

Anathoth was about 4 miles northeast of Jerusalem and was the birthplace of Jeremiah.  Nob was about 1 mile (2 KM) east of Jerusalem.  Ananiah was about 2 miles (3 KM) southeast of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:33

Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,

 

Hazor in Benjamin was about 5 miles (8 KM) northwest of Jerusalem.  Ramah was about 6 miles (10 KM) north of Jerusalem.  Gittaim was about 23 miles (37 KM) northwest of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:34

Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

 

Hadid and Neballat were about 23 miles (37 KM) northwest of Jerusalem.  Zeboim’s location is unknown but is believed by the border of Philistia making it due west of Jerusalem.

 

Ne 11:35

Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.

 

Lod was about 24 miles (39 KM) northwest of Jerusalem.  Ono was about 28 miles (45 KM) northwest of Jerusalem.  And Meonothai begat Ophrah: and Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of Charashim; for they were craftsmen. (1 Chronicles 4:14)  These were craftsmen that worked with wood, stone and iron.  The location and details of it are unknown.

 

Ne 11:36

And of the Levites were divisions in Judah, and in Benjamin.

 

There were Levites who served in different locations as being assigned to a specific area for ministry.  They were scattered throughout the south country which was comprised of both tribes, Judah and Benjamin.
